Nestled in a mountain valley about halfway between the two most beautiful lakes in the Idaho panhandle, Lake Pend Oreille to the north and Lake Coeur d’Alene to the south, is this gorgeous 240 acre ranch.  Cocolalla Creek meanders through the ranch for more than a half of a mile on it’s way to Cocolalla Lake.  Bounding with rainbow and brook trout this creek is the namesake of the ranch.  Though the pastures and the hay fields are surrounded by tall pine, tamarack and aspen covered mountains, the ranch is easily accessible all year around.  The entrance is located directly on US Hwy. 95 about halfway between milepost 458 and 459.

Established decades ago Cocolalla Creek Ranch dates back to the times of cattle rustlers, bandits and even an owner who once hid a Caterpillar D8 from the local sheriff by burying it in the ground!  The ranch was also known for many years as the East-West Cattle Company.  Ranch Roping events were a common occurrence and the roping arena and chutes are still fully functional along with the announcers booth and grandstands.  In the 1970’s, Willie Nelson put on a concert in the arena filling the grandstands with enthusiastic country western fans.

Today, the ranch is owned by a lady who has been raising ranch horses in North Idaho since the 1970’s and who got the excitement of cutting horses in her blood about five years ago. She immediately began to assemble a band of broodmares in order to raise the best cutting and performance horses. 

In 2009, the dream of raising world class cutting horses became a reality.  Catmas, a filly by That Sly Cat out of Red’s Christmas Angel, was entered into the NCHA Futurity in Fort Worth, Texas.  Catmas, who was trained and shown by Sean Flynn, went on to place 4th at the Futurity and a dream was realized… partially.

In an effort to continue raising world class cutting horses, we pick only the top stallions in Texas to breed our mares.  The stallions chosen in 2010 include That Sly Cat, Smooth As A Cat, Autumn Acre, Tinsel Nic and Cats Merada.  Coming two year olds include horses by Meradas Blue Sue, Playgun, Smart Lil Highbrow, SR Instant Choice, TR Dual Rey, Smart Chic Olena and That Sly Cat.  Weanlings include foals by Vacca Rey, Zack T Wood, CD Olena, Haylreysious, Smart N Shiney and Yellow Roan of Texas.

Our facilities include a horse barn with 28 stalls and a state of the art color camera monitoring system installed in four foaling stalls where mares are brought in the early spring to foal. 

We specialize in the sale of yearlings and two-year-olds bred specifically for cutting, reining or working cow horses out of mares by Little Peppy, Bob Acre Doc, Docs Hickory, Docs Oak, Dee Colonel, Gray’s Starlight and Smart Chic Olena.
